At San Juan Diego Academy, Books Rule!
At San Juan Diego, the library is filled with book. Books fill the shelves and are displayed on tables, window ledges, revolving racks, and the tops of bookcases. Vibrant book jackets are pinned to the cork board that runs the length of the room, and two big bulletin boards present themed displays featuring . . . yes, books. Here, it’s easy to learn to love books.
The books-everywhere approach is a technique that works. Almost every time there are children in the library, someone will point to a display and ask, “Can I have that one?” It is also a way to expand book horizons, to entice kids to read something new as well as the great old familiars.
Classes visit the library each week where they are free to roam the library and search for the books that call to them. The librarian gladly assists them in this quest. The end of each library period is for quiet reading.
Our goal for our library is to foster our students’ love for books and reading, and through that, to broaden their knowledge of our world and all that is in it. We think achieving that would be the greatest gift we could give to the parents and children of San Juan Diego Academy.
SJDA students are endlessly curious and eager to learn; best of all, they love coming to the library. It’s the finest endorsement we could ever have.
