In today’s world, technology touches nearly every part of our lives. With computers and technology quickly becoming a necessity of day-to-day life, our students must develop the skills needed to be successful in a highly complex, technology-driven world.
In order to provide a 21st-century learning environment, each classroom at San Juan Diego Academy is equipped an LCD projector, a document camera and 3-4 student computers that allow technology to be easily incorporated across all subject areas. Students and staff take advantage of these resources to enrich their understanding of the topics being studied in the classroom and explore the world around them. A laptop cart and a wireless network that connects the entire campus makes learning possible throughout the building.
Our school also has a fully equipped computer lab featuring 28 computers. Students receive Technology instruction twice each week. The technology teacher works closely with the classroom teachers to incorporate 21st-century skills in all curriculum areas. Students receive direct instruction in keyboarding, navigating the internet, internet safety, research techniques and Microsoft Office Suite which includes Word, Powerpoint, Publisher and Excel.
In addition, English Language Learners have the option to utilize the lab for Rosetta Stone English language instruction.
Some of the projects students have created this year in the computer lab that connect to a variety of curriculum areas include Family calendars, Coloring Books, Career week research projects, Patron Saint Research, narrative writing projects, and Science Fair Projects.
